Ultraboost 5X: Jessie Zapo’s Secret to Energized Running
Hi! I’m Jessie Zapo, a performance coach and lead Captain for adidas Runners U.S., the founder and coach of Girls Run NYC, and an ultramarathoner amongst other things. As an active woman and community leader in New York City, having energy is essential to how I show up to all the places and spaces I inhabit each day. Energy is not just about what I put out into the world, but also what I take in from the people I spend time with, and the environments I’m in. I find that the more active I am, the more energy I give and get from doing the things that I love.
The adidas Ultraboost 5X helps me to keep doing one of the things I love the most, which is running. They’re the much-anticipated update to this iconic shoe that I’ve been waiting for. I’ve been wearing versions of the Ultraboost since day one for its comfort and versatility as a shoe that I can run, walk and spend the whole day in. The newly released Ultraboost 5X is the lightest, fastest, most responsive model yet– and it’s still the comfortable and versatile shoe that I know and love. When I step into this shoe, I’m confident that I’m going to have a comfortable run, and that I can be ready for whatever the day brings.
THE IMPORTANCE OF ENERGY
‘Be here now’, is one of my mantras for life and running. It’s been my sacred ritual that helps me time and time again. As a performance coach and ultra-marathoner, I am mindful of how I show up each day and to each workout. In my opinion, it’s the single most important aspect of training and one of the greatest things you can do for others. An act of discipline, it creates a foundation for the work that you put in that allows you to do great things.

How and where do we gather that energy from as runners and humans? Sustained energy comes from embracing a holistic approach to an active lifestyle. How you fuel yourself, recover and train your mindset all matter as much as the physical movement itself. In addition to those pillars, we rely on the gear that helps us to keep showing up.
INTRODUCING: THE ADIDAS ULTRABOOST 5X
The best running accessories make you feel confident, providing you with, and helping you make the most of your energy. For example, the best trainers are those you don’t have to look for, they’re always right there by your door. Easily accessible, it’s your go-to item that you know will never fail.

In my mind the sign of a great shoe, running or not, is one that I don’t ever think about. It’s the pair that never go in the closet. Rather they’re right there by the entry to my apartment so I can grab it and go. A great shoe allows me to have that feeling of doing exactly what I love while being in the moment here and now without worry, discomfort or pain.

Right now, that shoe is the Ultraboost 5X. My go-to whether I’m going for an easy run with friends, on my feet all day exploring the city, or lining up at the start line of a 10K or half marathon race. The fit and feeling of the upper on the UB5X is breathable and helps me feel supported but not constricted. I love that I can move my toes around the toe box without the feeling of being crowded or too loose.

There is space for my foot to swell, which is one of the real, yet non-glamourous, aspects of running a lot of miles. I love the forward motion that I feel in this shoe, and the overall comfort of the boost in the sole. My favorite thing about it, is that it gives me the energy to keep showing up to do what I love.

In honor of the newly launched adidas Ultraboost 5X, the adidas Runners community were challenged to energize their run by completing five running based activites, including walking, as part of the ongoing adidas Running app’s series of monthly challenges. With over 270,000 participants, it’s safe to say we were all feeling the hype!
